Alexa Mardon + Erika Mitsuhashi (Mardon + Mitsuhashi) have been working together since 2015. Our interdisciplinary work has taken forms of durational performance, public installation, set design, printed publications, and projection design and has been presented in collaboration with The Dance Centre, Made In BC, The Surrey Art Gallery, The Toronto Dance Community Love in, OFFTA, Summerworks, and VIVO Media Arts Centre. Mardon + Mitsuhashi create work that performs the line between tenderness and discomfort, embodying questions around the structures we live within and our resistance to and complicity with them. Our work is dedicated to long term relational transformation, and is rooted in friendship and dedication to one another as artists. As dancers, we both regularly perform nationally with Canadian companies and choreographers including Lee Su-Feh, Benjamin Kamino, Justine A. Chambers, dumb instrument dance, and MascallDance. As choreographers we are committed to leading processes which foster the physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual autonomy of our collaborators.
